Date:
Sunday June 9th.
Time:
Noon to 2pm

Location:
Rocanini Coffee Roaster. 127 West 5th Avenue,Vancouver, BC V5Y 1H9.

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I am informing you of the shocking passing of our friend Michael Ratcliffe.
Those of you who were fortunate enough to call Michael a friend,  can empathize with how tragic this news is.
Michael was a force of nature.
He did things with an impact that far exceeded his stature.  He attacked life with a dedication, passion and  ferocity that few could keep up with.

When life dealt him the cruel blow of a degenerated hip joint,  Michael simply moved on. ” I will just tough it out for a few years and have hip surgery later”, he said nonchalantly.
And that’s what he did.
Unfortunately despite having  the courage of a lion, and conviction well beyond his young age, life is unpredictable.
That precious heart stopped beating last week.
We are all devastated and emptied with this unexpected and sudden loss.

We ask that we allow his family time and space to process all of this.
We will relay information  as we receive it.
Please take some time to reach out to each other and help everyone heal. Michael’s family is putting together a memory book of thoughts, stories, photos and other media (poems, music, art etc.) and would like to request that you share your good thoughts, memories, photos, videos or other media of Michael. Barista Skills, Competition & Coffee Tastings Course

Canadian Barista Academy Special Guest TeacherWith Cole Torode,

2018 Canadian Barista Champ

Sept 21, 9am to 1pm, includes lunch

Canadian Barista Institute | Vancouver Calgary and Toronto

We openly and actively share knowledge and skills through our barista, roaster and Opening a Coffee Shop classes. Our motivation in teaching is simple and transparent – we do not want to sell you anything (kickbacks) nor will we one day compete against your specialty coffee business. Our sole objective is to educate!

3711 1st Ave, Burnaby

You will have a rare opportunity to learn from the current Canadian Barista Champion, how to improve your coffee skills and cafe culture. This course is for baristas and coffee shop owners to illustrate the importance and benefits of training for competition, the detailed use of the barista technical score sheet and proper coffee cupping.

You don’t need to compete to benefit from Cole’s extensive expertise. Learning these skills will improve your consistency and tasting abilities that have positive effects on business and cafe culture. This course is an opportunity to learn the essential key points gleaned from years of competing while running a business, and how to apply this to your coffee job and business. As a bonus, you will have a deliciously-rare opportunity to taste some of the espresso, cappuccino and signature drinks that Cole served at both the Canadian & World Barista Championship.
